Canford’s new theatre is appropriately named the Layard. Art pupils undertook a painting project while it was under construction, Philip Vanier capturing it when it was just a steel skeleton. The theatre was officially opened by Sir Richard Eyre in May 1999, but its first use was for the Canford Festival, a series of events celebrating the school’s 75th Anniversary.
